Welcome to the Corvette Forums at the Corvette Action Center!

PLEASE LOOK AT THIS 65 engine stamp!!! HELP!!!

For what little it's worth.

Yes.

I believe it is a factory stamped pad. I think the trim tag is real too.

I would agree with Jerry. Too bad the performance clinic had to stamp their over the pad!

Regards, John McGraw

FWIW, that is a 327 assembled as 365 hp (L76) 4 sp assembled on March 1, 1965, if I am reading that clearly

Meanwhile, you have a body build date of March 15 per that trim tag

that trim tag Int code looks funky to me (changed letter), but it might just be the pic. It now reads for a blue & white vinyl interior, could have been altered from a 420 - a Saddle vinyl interior or 430 = Green vinyl. Not a major deal in the grand scheme of things, and I am likely just seeing things, not trying to freak you out and even if funky it's not like we are talking about a funky engine stamp pad.

PS on that engine stamp pad - the seller would have to accept the fact that the car, even if possessing the orignal engine, is not a suitable NCRS candidate with that other stamping on the pad. Should be a price demerit.

You asked,,

As far as the engine pad, although I do not agree with the procedure, it might be justifiable, but I would have a problem with the data plate. I'm trying to think why the factory would waste the time to try and doctor an existent data plate, rather then stamp out a new one on the machine. It's not as if it were a vin plate with the sequential serial numbers

You know it's going to raise eyebrows, bring on objections, and snide remarks about who tried to modify the plate to match a colour change. Just me two cents.

The trim tag is probably a legitimate error; the only combinations that end in "0" are 420 (saddle), 430 (green) and 450 (white), and the first character that was stamped in that second position was a "1" (or an alpha character with a straight vertical leg), not a 2, 3, or 5, and the only trim numbers with a "1" as the second character didn't end in a "0". I have several examples of legit factory trim tag overstamps like that.

Nobody in the plant really paid any attention to the trim number on the tag; they went by the trim number printed on the build sheet, which was out in the open where they could see it.

Yup, sure did - the box is in the back of my minivan already; it's heavy - must be good Hydratech stuff inside :)

Great John, but don't put too much strain on your back. I will find you, and haul those old crappy parts away for you :D

Teach me to go away !

Well Nellfryer, now I am caught up on all three of your threads. I was gone last weekend to the Monterey historic Races at Laguna Seca.

You may want to rethink the LA car at $42500. The market is very hot right now, and i do not think you will find any mid year converible under $35000. And those that are need a complete restoration.

I love your comments -- I've been thinking more and more about the 65 for 42.5 -- I haven't found anything close...he is on a trip and returning on sunday..we're supposed to talk then -- perhaps we can close our gap...if you know of anything better lemme know -- that 55k car is interesting but it would have to be frame off for that number -- or real close -- sean
