I was talking with my mechanic today, and mentioned that i wanted to pull the plugs to check them... he said the book calls for an 8 hour job to change the plugs in the vet....

is this true, or was he mistaken??

I will be eagerly awaiting what you hear. I was thinking of doing the same job in a few weeks. 8 hours????? Wow

Radar

The book gives 1.6 hrs. and the includes gap, blow all holes before removal move the car in & out put key in ing. coffee break, etc, etc, real time 30 min. this is probabley the easiest car ever made to change plugs! And I thought I was bad! (8HRS):r :L :L :L :L :L :L :L I'd need bullet proof everything because my customers would shoot me.

I agree....This is not that hard. Ifyou use a swivel head socket for the Passengers side rear plug, it makes it much easier. Maybe 1 hour tops......Don't use Bosch Platinum +4, whatever you do...I took mine out, sent them back and installed my Plain Bosch Platinums back in.....

If you want put an "M" infront of the plug # you'll get a marine plug (same thing) just the M has an anti-seize compound on it. they won't seize in the head!:_rock

Yep it's true...8 hours....

If you got one arm....

(side note, I have used Bosch +4's for 2 years now. Best plug I have ever used. And I believe you will find numerous others here that agree...my 02¢)

good to hear, im not so worried about it anymore!!

Damn, you guys are quick:_rock. Took me about 2.5 hrs, but it was my first time and I did a compresion test and changed some wires as well :J . A good plug starter can make the job a little easier. You can also get that back plug on pass side from wheel well a little easier I've heard

About an hour, main snag being the last back one on the passenger side. If I were you I would question anything else you hear from that shop:puke Always ask here before you sign the dotted line!:beer

For the L98, if you take your time and haven't done it before, 2 hours should be more than enough time.

LT1/4 on the other hand... whew 6 hours sounds about right for the do it yourselfer:r

vettlt193,

Why such a big time difference with a lt1

Because everything is intricately hidden and jammed in there. We don't have an LT1 Corvette, but we do have a Roadmaster that has an LT1 in it and getting to those plugs looks like a nightmare!

I think that I would run away from that mechanic. 8 hours to do plugs on an L98? I couldn't even milk the clock that bad at work!:L

bosch plats +4's all the way! you can't go wrong! i spray the threads with a little wd-40 so it starts easy and come out easy also. always worked for me!

btw i change my plugs every 6 months or so needed or not needed. always like my rides in tune!
