When was this oil, which was the first commercially available synthetic oil, introduced to the public?

It was the oil that helped our beloved Callaway Twin Turbo Corvettes with durability and later, Chevrolet took that R&D and made the oil standard "Factory Fill" with the LT1 Corvettes.

After several more years of fine tuning his formulation, AMZOIL (Amatuzio-oil) was created and became the first 100% synthetic diester based engine oil to pass the API sequence tests and receive API qualification in 1972.

The following year Mobil Oil began marketing the first PAO based engine oil overseas and in 1975 they began test marketing a synthetic PAO based synthetic in the U.S. called Mobil 1.

In 1971 All-Proof now called Redline; followed fourth by Amsoil who packaged and resold a diester-based 10W40 formula from Hatco in 1972 and then Mobil 1, introduced in North America in 1974[1] (with a PAO-based 5W20 formula).

That's very interesting - the 125th anniv. of Mobil Oil book, claimed an introduction of 1976 for retail sales of Mobil1

What's strange is that only the Corvette was factory filled with Mobil1. All other LT1 and LS1 cars I know of came with standard oil made from dinosaurs.
