Pop quiz: What year was Mobil1 first introduced?

When was this oil, which was the first commercially available synthetic oil, introduced to the public?

It was the oil that helped our beloved Callaway Twin Turbo Corvettes with durability and later, Chevrolet took that R&D and made the oil standard "Factory Fill" with the LT1 Corvettes.

Sorry, no prizes, but you will have the satisfaction of oil-in-the-veins, if you are the first corect guess :beer

After several more years of fine tuning his formulation, AMZOIL (Amatuzio-oil) was created and became the first 100% synthetic diester based engine oil to pass the API sequence tests and receive API qualification in 1972.

The following year Mobil Oil began marketing the first PAO based engine oil overseas and in 1975 they began test marketing a synthetic PAO based synthetic in the U.S. called Mobil 1.

The answer is 1975.

IN THE EARLY 70'S WE PUT MOBIL OIL IN OUR PERSONAL CARS AND THE RACE CAR AT THE SUNOCO STATION.

This is going to get interesting. Very interesting. Next we'll be down to the month, day and original bottle, with matching numbers?

We will probably find the actual date of its launch and here is some verification that the year of the launch was 1974 http://www.twinturboluigi.com/Callaway/other/SuperSynBrochure.pdf

Its on page 1:
Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil was
launched in Europe and Japan in
1973, and in North America a year
later. Initially available only in a
fuel-saving SAE 5W-20 viscosity
grade, the Mobil 1 line expanded in
the next decade and its reputation
for outstanding performance grew.

What's strange is that only the Corvette was factory filled with Mobil1. All other LT1 and LS1 cars I know of came with standard oil made from dinosaurs.

I see that and raise you this....!! (year highlighted for effect) ;LOL

If Exxon-Mobil doesn't know, how the heck are we supposed to?
