Popping Targa top

I noticed during our trip to Indiana, Michigan, Ontario Canada, New York last month, after 007 sat in the sun day after day, the top has started popping occasionally and more and more as the trip went on. I know that there were issues with some targa tops separating and some even coming off completely. Here is my question/statement; How do I tell if this top qualifies for replacement? The reason I ask is, this top is not original to my 007. It was bought by the previous owner who had it painted to match. Are there date codes on these tops that would indicate what year or if the top is covered by the recall?

I really need to have this looked at, as I don't think I want the top flying off during one of my trips. I do have the original tinted top, but it lets in too much sunlight making the interior hot.....and I really like the solid color top.

C4C5specialist, LLC5, Dadaroo....or anyone else with an answer, post up soon.

There aren't serial numbers that I know of, but the popping sounds are not good. That was the prelude to losing the top skin on 2 of my cars.

That's what I understand, Rich. That's why I felt like it should be looked at.

This particular problem popped before GM took any kind of problem seriously, and actually ignored huge issues. At that time GM replaced/repaired those tops that actually showed signs of separation. Unlike today's recall rich environment, there had to be "blood in the water" before a dealer was authorized to repair/replace. After a period of time, GM's take was that all the tops that were defective, had already failed.

I don't know what's going on currently on the warranty or repair campaign front.

I thought the only tops that separated were Z06 tops. C6 Corvettes are known for the popping sounds. I have added the e clips to mine and keep the rubber seals lubricated.

Nope, My first pop top was a 2005, and that was before the Z06 was even introduced. My second one WAS a Z06 however. Both were eventually replaced under warranty.
