Today I took my Bose Gold stereo and all four bose speakers out of my 92 vert. I didn't really want to do this again (previously did the same to my 84 and regretted not keeping it original), but it stinks not having a working radio while crusin. Anyway, I bought the modification kit to allow the skinny JVC radio I bought to fit in the large Bose radio opening. I narrowed the wires down so that I get power to the radio and I get it to go on and off with the key. Problem is, I can't seem to figure out which wire controls the power antenna. I've searched these forums as well as others, but I still come up short. One said that the pink wire controls the Antenna and another says there are purple wires under the passenger side dash. I tried connect the pink wire to the romote wire and nothing happens. I haven't been able to find what is needed and was wondering if anyone had a wiring diagram or knew which wire I needed to connect to get the antenna working. On my 84, it actually had a separate antenna wire that plugged directly into the antenna slot on the radio. I can't seem to find any such wire on this one. I plan to use all new speaker wires, which makes the job a little easier. On the same token, doing this radio install job has turned into the biggest project I've had with this car. Please help! Thanks.:beer

I don't know if this helps but I know on a 90 and 91 the Bose Speaker Amp.relay is located under the driver side dash. The pic. bottom left shows the relay. I believe a 92 should be the same. In 93-96 the Bose Speaker Amp.relay and the Receiver was moved to the RH rear storage compartment.

The Pink wire is at the Bose Relay socket and also at the Bose Receiver which on a 90-92 is mounted below the Passenger side dash.

So you need to connect your Blue wire from your new radio to either the Pink wire at the Receiver or the Pink wire at the Bose Speaker Amp. Relay.

On the Bose Radio when you turned the Control Head "On" knob, it sent a signal to the Bose Receiver. The Bose Receiver sent 12 volts to both the Power Antenna relay and the Bose Speaker Amp. relay on the Pink wire.

for about $10.00 you can buy the rec. bypass harsness and it's all marked. I just did my 90 and all works great

Your 92 may have the radio rec under one of the storage compartment. You will need the antenna extension.

I bought this bypass harness but unfortuntely the harness did not plug into my radio. Now I've got a big mess of wires under the dash.:W

What is the antenna extension?

What is the antenna extension?

the harness plugs into the cars wiring harness at the radio Rec. then you will extend it and use the plug that came with your Radio.

The antenna plugs into the radio rec box , you will need the extension to get to your radio head

I just noticed ec55 said , your box is in the same location as mine. You will need the

antenna extension that converts to the larger standard antenna connection, GM used a smaller connector. It's available at any electronics store.

You will need to do the resistor install to keep the SES light from coming on.

I just did this and it only took a couple of hours once I knew what to do.

If you need help you can call me

once it gets done you will like it. I kept all of the original stuff.

RE: bose radio conversion.

kenwood1.jpgThanks for the thread, this was a big assist getting my antenna re-powered and connected to the new Kenwood headunit in my 92. The Bose Gold system was largely removed by previous owner, the receiver beneath the glovebox was all that remained, and there is where the factory antenna cable and other connections can be made. I recommend the Kenwood X798, it has ample power, media inputs, and is discreet black with a display that can be tinted orange to match the existing dash illumination. I did not require the resistor, but I did need a 14" metra IBR-ADGM antenna extension from the old Bose reciever location (which I have now removed), and a single jumper from the pink wire to the blue amp power lead on the new Kenwood. Thanks again.

The OEM unit, if in order, is hard to beat.

Especially with your own tunes!

DON'T get a cheap MP3 player - they're hard to navigate!!!

ed.:
Do you still have the Bose? (I'm not 100% certain what you're meaning by the PO "largely removed" the unit)

The Bose head unit w/cd was removed over 10 years ago, judging by the date on the pioneer chassis that was in place. The audio specialist shop that replaced the pioneer said the amps were defective and disconnected, some removed. That left the receiver that actually has the tuner and some other key components, which was all that was left of the system. I removed that, since it was not useful to me, and someone else may want it. I never heard the system operate, other forums indicated they were problematic, and costly to maintain, so I decided to upgrade from the old pioneer, rather than try to put all the missing components back. Another plus is having HD radio, bluetooth, and hidden usb in console, for music stored on memory sticks. However, I would have kept it original if the Bose was intact.
