Has anyone found a good deal on a power steering conversion kit for a C3?

Thanks

Yep... better then the $999 I found for a big block conversion. I didn't expect a conversion kit to be so much.... can you say "Corvette" hehe!

Corvette Central has a kit for 739.00 and also I know lots of folks have talked about the Steeriords Rack and Pinion converstion kit. If I was going to do anything to the steering on my 1976 it would be to install the Steeriords Rack and Pinion conversion kit. Just my 2 cents

There's a complete kit available from Vette Brakes and Products. Price is $699 plus Tony offers CAC members a discount of 10%. :cheers

Well, unfortunately I've already made the purchase. I had no idea that CAC sponsors gave discounts to member. I'll know better next time. I still got a pretty good price I think. It was a lot less than most.

Bah, -humbug...!

-if you've a properly engineered C3-vette then the notion of installing a Pwr.Steering-sys. sounds absurd and is antithetic to good road-feel at the steering-wheel; -however, if you've the silly hog-handling Big-block that was designed for a truck (and indeed makes your C3 handle like one) then the resulting overweightness would demand PS in order to make low-speed manouvers manageable by the average driver. A C3 with a hotted-up Sml.block and 5-speed/Tremac-transmission and manual-steering will absolutely run circles around a C3 crippled by a Big-block; --and the notion of retrofitting R&P-gear is a total waste if your oem-steering is in good order and entirely lubed with the black MD-grease (including the steering-gear)...

Rebuttle: Mac, -love to stir things up a bit, get the BB-V8 set really fuming at me; --Zora sometimes inhale'ed a bit to much hi-test fumes me thinks.; -and D'newton, you're right about what ever strokes one's cerebal-cortex is the thing (ie: -the ruddy English grunt-heads like their tractor-pulls)... ~B.vH

It always worth a check with our sponsors; most offer some sort of discount for CAC members. Just click on the SPONSORS tab at the top of the page.

Vette/Berlina-coupe, thanks for sharing your opinion. Being the owner of a standard steering, standard brake L82, I know what you're saying but... that doesn't explain why Zora's favorite Vette was the 1974 big block coupe!! :L

Thanks for your very opinionated comments on my upgrade... Just for your info, I'm totally ripping out from under the hood down to the wires in my 68 427 vette. When I bought the car, it had a 350SB (which sucks!) I'm putting back what it originally had... only "hotted" up as you call it. It's very doubtful that a "hotted" up 350 would do circles around what I'm replacing with. As for the PS conversion, I'm doing for my own personal feel of handling... I'm going to be the own driving the car after all. I don't consider anything a 'waste' if its what the owner desires! Just wait a couple of months to see the before/after shots... then you'll drool.

Thanks for the info Mac. I'm still learning about some of the different areas of the forum, so this was a new one on me. Great information!

Hi there,
First time I say anything here, new member. I have a 79 that I recently put a set of steeroids
r&p steering on and there is no comparison to what I had before that, I do have to say my steering was pretty messed up to begin with, but for roughly 1200$ I have modern steering
capabilities, It was all bolt in, no drilling, still have the original I can put back in if ever needed.
Best thing I have done to my car so far, love it.

Welcome to the forum beckhardt! I hope you find it just as informational as I have. I depend on the gang here to answer most of my questions, as I'm new to the classic vette world.

$1200 were the prices I was finding at first too, but that was too much for my blood. I ended up finding a guy in your own state that gave me a great deal on a new system minus the pump. I ordered a pump from conceptone because I totally refuse to go with a TypeII due to space issues.

Welcome aboard!
