I just had the power steering pump replaced on my 79 vette; it was leaking when I bought the car and the replacement rebuilt pump came with it. I had it installed and just got it back last week and the first time I drove it and poured on the coals I heard a screach and the belt came off. It turns out the puley has a wobble to it now, most noticably at lower rpms. I understand the pulley had to be pressed on to the new pump shaft. I know the wobble was not there before the new pump so I presume that either the pulley was bent went pressed on or should I consider something wrong with the new pump shaft or what else could it be? Anyone have something like this happen? My mechanic seems very competent, but my sense is I need to hold firm that he needs to fix the pulley issue. Any other suggestions? TX Dave

If it wasn't bent before,I'd guess they bent it pulling it and reinstalling it!!It happens, exspecially if they don't use the right puller installer!:thumb

Make sure you check that all of the bolts on the pump and to the bracket are there and tight. If the bolt just under the pulley going through the bracket is missing or not tight it will cause the pump to sit tilted and not inline with your crankshaft pulley, causing it to throw the belt no matter how tight your adjustment bolts are.
