Can someone please take some pictures of their power streeing pump and post them so I can see what I have going with mine. I have replaced the original pump some time ago, and the pulley doesn't alaign up with pulley on the crank. The alternator and a/c do align up. This maes me think that I have the incorrect pump on now.

Does it look crooked or are the pulleys on a different plane? If the P/S pulley is crooked. Make sure that the pivot bolt is tightened completely.

The pulley is straight, just that it aligns up almost with the a/c groove on the crank pulley. The a/c and alternator align up correctly. The power steering pump cap is impossible to take off unless I put on a longer belt which lets the pump lay out further than it should, but allows me to take the cap off. I,m going to have to find another 76 to look at to determine if it is the wrong pump, or pulley is too close to housing. It looks like the correct pump compared to pictures in catalogs.

the cap on my 76 is a PITA to take off but I can just barely get it; the next one is going to have a remote tank. ;) Its a replacement so I don't know if its correct or not.

You wouldn't be the first person that put a pulley on backwards. Does the PS pulley allow an incorrect installation? I can't remember.

No, it installs ok, it just seems, that it is maybe pressed on too far and that it doesn't align up.

I checked with my assemby manual, and all the parts seem to be there. I first thought I had left out some spacers behind the cradle that holds the pump.

for what it's worth, the ps pump on my 78 pace car is original and is also a PITA to get to and to remove the cap to effectively check the fluid level. i guess it's nice to see that GM thought enough of this design to carry it forward for many years, lol!

OK, I took some pics now going to try and upload them. OK here is one this may be to small so if you want them let me know and I can email them.

OK going to try and put two more, again if too small email me and I will send them to you. This is my 76.

The power steering pump on my 81 also appears 'misaligned' as in 76okievettes picture. We've gone over this before. Its just the way it is. Let it go..it'll be fine.

Is your pump aligned with the pulley? Or is it straight with the pulley? All other vehicles I have worked on have them straight so sas to not throw belts etc.
