I finally took delivery of my C6 Convertible with a power top in late March. I had the car less than 3 weeks when the power top malfunctioned while trying to put the top down. The rear deck did not stay up while the top folded down into the car. Instead the rear deck went up and then right back down at the same time the top is trying to come down. The top was then stuck straight up with the latch mechanism of the rear deck pushing against the glass window. I remember my dealer saying there was a way to manually override the top mechanism so I pulled out my owner’s manual to see how to release the pressure. The owner’s manual says the pump is in the engine compartment on the passenger’s side. Yeah right. After a half hour of looking for it I called roadside assistance and they had no idea. I called my dealer and explained my problem and asked how to get it down. The receptionist nicely said they were too busy and to call back later and hung up on me. Now I was really ****ed. About 15 minutes later, the hydraulic pressure released on its own and I was able to put the top back up. I drove straight to the dealership and after a few choice words about their receptionist, I showed them the problem. On about the third time I was showing the tech what it was doing, it started to work fine. By the way, the pump is under the carpet on the sidewall of the trunk behind the passenger seat. Thanks Chevrolet for accurate owners manual. My dealer inspected the top until the next day and said everything is working fine so I came back and picked it up.
Three days later the top does it again. So I took it back to the dealer. The next day the dealer calls to tell me while they were trying to figure out what was wrong, they bent the hinges in the rear deck and they would have to order parts. A week later they told the parts would be on back order until the end of July. I told them that was absurd and they somehow got parts in two weeks. They had the car another week to install the hinges and promised me they would have what ever the problem was fixed. Now they think it could be either the hydraulic pump or the electronic control. It has been three more weeks and still no pump. They will not order the electronic control because they want to try the pump first. I have a feeling it is something in the control because the rear deck and the top are moving at the same time and they should not. But hey, it’s not their car that has not had an operational top for 6 weeks.
They say there are no parts for the top in the parts distribution system and they are trying to get them from the assembly line. Does anyone know someone at Chevrolet that can actually get parts or make something happen?
