70 VETTE 454

Guest
Has any one ever tried to convert their manual windows to power windows?
Is this hard to do???
Got a 70 Stingray.....BUT I want to keep the handle to keep the stock look, and use it as the up and down button, with some sort of relay or something to make the window roll????

Any help is better than going in blindly, I got new door panels already but just not sure if I want to keep the regular stock function of the handle, or use the normal window button, but the way im thinking is allot COOLer idea.....
I know its been done on HOT RODS but I never seen it on a vette.....YET.
any ideas or links.......

Dave

take a look at some of the Street rod mags for Ideas there are a couple of manufactures that offer universal kits for doing just what you want to do.

I would think it would be a lot easier to go to the junk yard, or any place that has Corvette parts, pick up a motor and all the necessary parts. Everything should fit snug. Shouldn't be too hard with a diagram of what it's supposed to be like.

Thanks for the input guys, but I was wondering if anyone here has actually done that mod to their car or knows someone who has. And what has to be done or is needed in doing so.
I think I have seen something in various street rod mags, but they are nowhere near to a vette they are usually custom, so I don't know how well it will work on my door to do that.
were power windows available on corvettes in 1970?? if so, is there a kit or something that may work better for this option.

I don't mean to keep chiming in with unexperienced help, but I really don't think you'll have a problem at all. The door and panel production were same for all '70 Corvettes, power windows or nonpower windows. It's only a matter of 1) gutting the manual pull out 2) installing the motors and spring and other related hardware 3) throwing a power source to the motors and 4) putting in a new middle console plate with power window switches, along with new switches.

That should be it. Hopefully somebody thats already done it will chime in here soon though and give you some definite data.

Good luck! :D

By the way, yes power windows were an option in 1970 (RPO A31).

Stallion,
Not a prob, experienced or not, its all help that I didn't know before....
well it sounds simple enough, give the steps provided, but I guess like everything else, you got to get in it before you can actually do it. Just not sure what a power set up is actually supposed to look like and placement of certain power parts that aren't there now as opposes to the manual rig. (a diagram would help....got one). but now there's the question on how to make the actual widow roller act as the switch.....I know..... its just easier said than done, but now I got more to go off that I did when I started this thread. appreciate the help and advice, keep it coming......its better than guessing.
And now I just need to find a power set up off a 70.....that'll be tough, vetts are extinct at pretty much any junk and salvage and pull it places.....
but ill keep my fingers crossed to see if someone here has actually done that here......
