Just ruined my spindle/rotor getting the stupid rivets out...so i could repair my hand brakes....so I might pass the NC Safety inspection. I drilled too much!
Looks like I'm going to be buying a rebuilt/new trailing arm complete w/spindle & rotor. Precision Engineering has the best prices I could find: $300 w/rebuilt arm, and $500 w/new arm...without exchange! I would just do the rear spindle support but it looks like someone welded the support to the trailing arm on the outside. Van Steel & Bair are higher, and the retailers, eg Vip, Mid-A, Ecklers, etc. are higer priced, and I don't believe, care about the optimum solution for the problem. I haven't seen PE mentioned/recommended before,so I just thought I'd ask. DOWN and out!

I don't know about Precision Engineering nor do I know anyone that has. Scott81 (runs the SharkTank) did a complete everything on his suspension and driveline, he used Van Steel & Guldstrand and was extremely happy with both.

If you have time, I suggest you PM "stingray6974" (Mike) here at the Action Center. Mike is a Corvette Mechanic and may be able to shed some light on your delima, he's one of the best Corvette Mechanics for C1 ~ C4's I know..

Best wishes and Luck getting that L81 back on the :Steer

I have used Precision Engineering for my 1977 L-82 Trailing Arms rebuild. Last year, I shipped mine to them to be rebuilt, and they came back like new, including the parking brake shoes and hardware. The arms even had a fresh paint job. I am a very satisfied customer of theirs, and I plan on sending them my brake calipers in a week or so to be rebuild. This guy knows what he's doing.

thanks for the imput.

As it turned out, the UPS charges were going to be $85, one way,. So, I found a guy in Charlotte that, hopefully, knows what he's doing. I had concluded that VanSteel was the best bet due to acknowledgement of "runout" and being the most willing to answer my questions and offer suggestions.

Bizzy,
How much was the trailing arm rebuild? I've seen the $300 each on their website and found it hard to believe.

Hi, Does Precision Engineering have a web site.? Is that the city that is close to West Palm Beach. I live close to Wellington and would like to check this company out but I can't find any info on it. It would nice to have someone close by that knows about Corvettes.

Precision Engineering is located in Wellington, Florida; their web site is www.fixvetteparts.com, and they have a toll-free number, 1-800-748-0362. They advertise in the NCRS Driveline, and since I'm a member of NCRS, I get an issue every two months. They'll rebuild the following: Brake Calipers: $66.00 each; Trailing Arm Assemblies: $249.00 each; Differentials: $495.00. They come back to you better than factory new. Check with them first before you send your parts to them. They won't disappoint you.
