Yesterday I noticed that my digital speedo cluster was flashing SYS 3 times every 15 seconds where the temp numbers usually are,First off the car was on reserve fuel, never had it that low before so dont know if that was the problem, but after I filled it up it still did it, On the center diagnostic panel(where service engine, abs,asr off etc) nothing abnormal was lite up,Only other thin is about a week ago the battery went dead(must of left the dome lights on)I charged it up and took it for a spin after that and didnt notice anything(new battery also running 14.7 volts running and 12.2 with key on not running)could it be the computer had to reset its self after total power loss, thatnx for the input

Hi fordnomore- I had a similiar problem about 6 months ago(left some lights on and the battery went dead)ever since then the SYS thing kept hitting me in the face.My readings were about the same as yours except when I had all my lights on the volt. would drop.I had the battery checked and low and behold I had a couple of dead or near dead cells.Put a new battery in and after about 6 or so starts the flashing pain in the butt ceased. You could have had 2 things happen at once...
I've ran mine down to where I was running on fumes, literally! It wasn't intentional or a common occurence. Once the last bar on the fuel gauge disappeared a few minutes later SYS started flashing just as you describe.
As the manual explains it that means the car is telling you to wake up and check your gauges. Something is wrong! In my case it was obious. Feeding the car made all well again :drink
I do beleive you can also expect SYS to flash at you if your volts drops too low. There are a couple of other thresholds that will cause it to flash too. Just can't remember what they are.
