Haven't taken my 82 to a mechanic yet but I'm thinking the computer (ecm) may be on the way out.

It started last week when I was at a stop light and it went from 800 rpm idle to 1500 rpm and then down again and then up again without pressing on the gas pedal. Then the check engine light came on. After a while it felt normal again.

Then a few days later when I first started it, the check engine light cane on, then went off but it started dying as I was driving down the street. I could always restart it by putting it in neutral and cranking it over. When at idle the rpm was 2000 rpm which obviously wasn't right.

Does anyone have experience with the ecm and does it sound like I should just replace it? Or could there be other issues involved. It already had it's oxygen sensor replaced last year.

Thanks in advance for any help guys!
