Sometimes when I shift to third gear the shifter hangs up. It seems like I have to force it into gear. I don't think it's the synchros, but I'm not sure. This transmission is new to me I've had a T56 but this german trans is confusing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please email any info/comments/suggestions to brian.bilski@airliance.com

yeah but sometimes at high rpm shifts it will grind for a split second.
is there something wrong with third gear?

i have 71k miles on it. no, i dont know if it has ever been changed. i thought that might be it too. now does that use 80/90w oil or does it use regular ATF? That probably sounds like a stupid question, but my T56 used regular ATF so thats why i ask. every other manual trans ive had used 80/90w. do you have any suggestions on what brand is good for this trans.

Me Too

Mine hitches every so often too. I've got 83k miles on it and still original clutch. I've blamed it on the clutch and me not putting the pedal all the way to the floor. I don't think there is anything wrong there - I just think it is somewhat of a bulky, notchy tranny.

i was even thinking it could be the shifther. maybe a good hurst shifter would fix it.

the ZF uses a special 5x-30 oil that is a dealer item only. As for the 3rd gear problem, I doubt the Shifter wll fix it, but the hurst is nice.

I would guess that maybe the 3rd gear syncros are going bad.

If your gonna change your Transmission oil in your 6-spd just use Mobil 1, it works great, nice smooth shifts, I used it in mine and there ain't nothing better than Mobil 1
