Freak Of Nature

Guest
Weather's been nice for the past few days, so I've had the glass top off. I pick my work partner up for work everyday, and he kind've lives in the sticks. Driveway gives me chills every time I drive down it due to the unlevelness of it. Well... I noticed the true meaning of body flexing. Now today the sky's were black & my father needed to borrow my car. Go to put the top on & I notice that I can't? All the screws will go in, but the front right one will not. The hole is about a 1/8 inch off from where the screw is, so it won't screw in. Tried everything to get it in, but no luck. Have any of you guys had this problem & do any of you know what I could do to fix it? Also... Do you think it's from the flexing I've experienced over the past few days? Thanks!:confused

I have a slight problem with mine as well. I just tug the roof panel a little until it lines up wiith the bolt hole; the weatherstripping should allow some tugging to get it in place.

I think I caused my mis-alignment by constantly lifting the car during this round of the project.

Gents....all four corners of the roof are adjustable....

I realize that. Mine's not off that much though, and his doesn't sound too bad either, so I didn't see the point of adjusting to compensate; it's just as easy for me to tug it a little. ;)

If you do a search on the topic, we had a large thread a while back on adjusting the roof. At the simplest, sometimes changing the order you tighten the corners makes a difference...

Roof bolts

Hi, My 88 does exactly what F of N described. I now start with the right front corner and it seemed to do the trick.

Yep

I have the same problem. I have no problems when I start the rear bolts and then jiggle the top and start one of the front holes. I have to push down on the front right to get that bolt to bite. After I have them all started, I can tighten them down without any trouble.

Mine always goes on easiest if I start at the LF, then the RF. It isn't misaligned side to side, but it is front to back. I can see the top pull the windshield frame back 1/8 to 1/4" as I tighten the rear bolts.

My car was in accident in one of it's prior lives based on the other minor dings I've found underneath. And the top is from another car, so I figured that was the cause of my top problems.
