Looks like we're finally spraying colour (acrylic enamel) underneath, on Friday. Yes, this Friday!

Now that the body is 98% finished, we're going to lift it back off the wood dolly, and hang it on a hoist using 4" x 4" posts cross-ways. The dolly would get in the way of the paint, so we're going to "wing-it".

I'm taking the entire day off work to make sure that nothing goes wrong, and of course to grab some photos. :D

After drying over the weekend, I'm going to rivet all the metal plates and brackets underneath and we'll then place it back on the dolly for the move into the paint booth and some topside colour.

Looks like 67HEAVEN really will be home for Christmas. It's only been 7.5 months in the body shop. :Silly

YES I did read that article... but I never made the connection. I only know him as "John Z... the Corvette encyclopedia". Very impressive! Congratulations to you John. Great article. Maybe you should publish a Corvette encyclopedia.

You know Its a terrible thing to say but its true the information and knowledge that he and fellow's like himself knows must be written on paper so the folks in twenty to thirty years who are going thru our cars again have the information available to them.
I think this is why the NCRS try's to be strict with there forum so that the information is there for ever

I'm getting ready to do my 63. I talked to one 'custom' shop and he gave me a budget of $20,000 to media blast, repair body where needed and paint. I had such a hard time keeping a straight face after he told me that. I just told him that he had convinced me how to proceed. OUT THE DOOR AND AWAY FROM HIM!!!!! I should have asked him what he was smoking but I just got out. I’ve heard of some high prices but this guy was out there.:booty :booty :booty

No effect at all Chris. The paint shop is slow even in the warm weather. ;LOL

An efficiency expert would do wonders for these guys.

SO where are the pictures and I hope your day went well on friday.

I am still thinking about the tiger with its hand on your wifes head. And wondering I thought he liked her.

Bright Red done in acrylic enamel. After a couple of days drying time, I'll attach the support plates and brackets underneath, then we'll tape off the underside and spray base/clear up top.

Lots more photos will be coming up on my website later this afternoon. I've gotta wash red paint out of my eyes. :D

;LOL .... and outta your hair and ears and maybe even your nose. ;LOL

That being said, there's nothing better than finally putting on the colour. :)

Before you have your car media blasted, you might be well-served to talk to someone that has used that business before, and also to make sure you know that the person that does the blasting can and will do a good job.

I was running into a real time crunch to get my racecar ready for the Monterey Historics and decided to same myself some time by having the doorjambs and decklid jamb media blasted.

It came back with no jellcoat in those areas as well as the areas nearby. I had asked him to blast the interior floor too, and it came back so rough that you would get all itchy from laying on the floor.

Most of the fiberglass work was done, but after sanding under a tarp while it rained for several days, I turned to a friend that owned a body shop. They pulled off a miracle to final-finish all of the rough body work, (I kept all of the original broken glass and re-repaired the "racer quick fixes" so I would have the original racer, not some rebodied car) including a tri-color paint and a clear-coat in THREE DAYS!!

There was no real harm since this is an old racer, but I would have been sick had it been my 63.
Just a "heads up".

Great News.

Did you see the article by JohnZ in the corvete enthusis magazine on setting body rivits? If not contact me and I will email a copy to you.

Thanks IH2LOSE. They arrived and are very helpful.

And, as always, thanks to JohnZ for the great info. :beer

OK so what chapter did I miss with the color change ? What happened to silver? I had thought me and Mac had decided that was the best color?

:D

The explanation for the change from the planned black to red can be found in Chapter 9.

As for you and Mac deciding on the best colour, I pulled out the title, and guess whose name I found on it. ;LOL

Ok, the finish coat (or whatever) covering the fibers was taken off.

I hate it when he pulls rank like that! :L
