'Heaven,

Hope that all went well today, and good luck for tomorrow.

Can't wait to see the pics, the engine page is still vacant, did you decide on a powerplant yet?

Tom

Thanks Tom. I got home an hour ago from a wild and wonderful day. I'm downloading photos from the camera right now and preparing a new thread........Progress Report - Dec.19.

It'll be up by 7:30 Eastern.

Decision on engine? Oh yesssssssssssssssss. I'm just not quite ready to make the announcement. :D

Nice choice in color.:D There's a nice red C2 coupe around here, it's got black Hooker sidemounts and a huge, 15 inch wide stripe going over the top, from the rear valence to the stinger hood. Awesome sight.

Bob,
Don't take no crap off Larry or Mac about your color choice, You just can't go wrong with red!!!!! I have been giving hard thoughts to putting the widened rear fenders on my 59, and may go ahead and order them this week. I don't know why I was so hung up on keeping the original body since almost every thing else on the car is non-original! I am limited to an 8.5" rear wheel with the original fenders, and can go to 10" wheels with the widened fenders. The 59-60 fenders are not quite as subtle as yours and they do show a definate bulge, but what the heck....

Sorry to steal Bob's thread (Yeah, right! :L) but ain't she sweet? :cool

John my advice is GO WILD TASTEFULLY as 67 heaven has done with his flares. I realley have to stop using the term flares because its actually a body wideing kit/set up and I think the rear lines of 59/60 could use some shape to them if they are tastefull not like the old circus wagon flares of the 70'S

I have been wondering what could be done on a 61/62 I think the ones he has will work for the back but what could you do for the front with out distoring the whole cars lines.the ones he has on his car are absolutley PERFECT

AND

I guess the red will look ok when he is done.

Only kidding I think the car is going to look OUT OF CONTROL when he is done

And just think you could of had a Z06 instead

Larry,

I admit that a time or two, during this very long process, I second-guessed myself and wondered if I should have just bought a Z-06 and said, "The Hell with this crazy project."

I'm at the point of not questioning my self anymore. :D

I respect and admire newer Corvettes, but which Chevy dealer can I go to and order one of these brand new? Because that's what this car will be..........brand new.

Thanks for your encouragement.

Bob,

I agree with you. A complete project like yours is much more rewarding than just purchasing the newer technology from the dealer.

Having done both routes my self.....the project car gets my vote:D

Now I have the itch so bad;)

See you later!

Newsflash.... 67Heaven renounces his former allegiance to big block Chev engine and decides to complete his restoration with a 426 Keith Black aluminum headed Hemi. When incredulous reporters asked the reason, 67Heaven shrugged his shoulders and stated "Well, I had this argument with a guy on one of the Corvette forums and he convinced me that Mopar Power was dominant. Since I promised myself that this restoration would have compromises, I knew I had to go with the Hemi."

That'll be the bloody day when an elephant takes up residence between my fenders. :r

;LOL

IH2LOSE,
The guy that makes the rear fenders for the 59, only makes them for the 58-60 cars. I don't know of anyone making them for a 61-62. The fronts are not a real problem since with proper wheel selection allows for a full 8.5" wheel width in the front with no interference problems. I used C5 front wheels front and back and can go lock to lock with no rubs. The only problem with going to wider fenders on the rear, is that I will put wider tires on and then I will be putting more stress on the marginal Dana 36 rearend. I chose the 36 rear since I knew that the relative smal tire woud protect the rearend, but with 11" rubber on the rear, It may be too much stress for long life, even with the automatic given the LS6 engine.

Somehow, I know you'd say that.

John, are you going to beef up the rear diff? If you worried already, it bodes not well for the future....

Mac,
If I stick with the stock fenders, the point is probably moot since the tires will limit how much power can be put to the ground. I have put a new set of 3:54 gears in and blueprinted the rear, so I know that the rear is in good condition, and the 4L60E trans will be a lot more friendly to the rear than a T56 would. I am allways looking for a good D44 core center section, but people are proud of them! If I ever decide to put one in, it just a couple of hour job, as all the other parts of the rear can be used with the D44 center section. This car after all, is not going to be an all out full gonzo racer, but more of a highway cruiser. I have so many hours invested in the D36 center section that I hate to just scrap it before ever driving the car! I have milled off so much of the original mounting pads and bosses that are not used on my chassis, that I could not even sell it to a C4 owner, not to mention the huge ammount of time spent polishing the case to a mirror finish!
