I guess its my turn to ask for help. Over two days time I started out with hesitation on WOT then catching and reving out to decent acceleration and my ave. mpg went waaay down into single digits. Last night, it started running hotter, had no power below 2000 rpm. The temp crept up to 240 and I was afraid to stop because I didn't think I could get it rolling again. I was only a mile from home and I kept the temp stabilized by coasting in neutral and keeping the water pump a pumping at 2000 rpm. Also, at low revs at WOT, I could hear a rapid ticking noise, probably the injectors. :confused :cry

I'm certainly no "expert", but it almost sounds like maybe the timing belt (chain) slipped a tooth.

Might be the a cat, or cats, going bad. When that happens, exhaust flow is choked and the engine dies or won't rev properly. Check your catalytic converters.

Yes, and for those who don't know how to check, just loosen up the exhaust manifold to let it breathe, and let er rip. If you have no power loss, it's time to drop the exhaust and check out the blockage.

Another way to check for a blown-out cat is that the canister will cool much quicker than one that is functioning correctly.

I must agree catalytic converters are the easiest thing to check. You didn't say how many miles were on your car, but just a bad tank of gas can cause them to malfunction in a NY minute.

I would also recommend that you also scan for codes to see if anything has gone haywire in the fuel delivery system, causing the computer to lean things way out..... Hence the higher temperatures and causing condition in paragraph one.
