I don't mean the actual caring for the seats themselves (I'll definitely use the leather cream and shampoo so they don't dry out) but I mean do you guys put anything over the seats to protect them from ripping or something? Because logically if somebody with a metal piece hanging from their pants sits in my Vette, it could be tragic (sp?). :(

What do you use for your leather seats and protection if you use anything?

Thanks! :D

I have Seat Saver seat covers that I purchased from Mid-America. These are my second set of covers, and my seats are original! So you can see that they do work. I don't think they would help much if someone had some metal in their pockets, but they do keep the leather from getting dirty and stained. In fact, when having the car Survivor judged in 1999, they thought that they were new seats! I politely said no they are not.

I have a Mid-America magazine and I'll look for them. So you recommend them then? I also have original seats and in good condition. I would hate for something to happen to them.

;LOL TR...You are like a first time father...;LOL

Yes I do. Most definitely. When they get dirty, you just throw them in the washer and then the dryer. Good as new! And your seats should look great for a long time. The best $ I ever spent on a Corvette accessory.

Sounds good. But what does it do for the look of the interior? I mean, I want to protect her at any cost at all, but how do these covers look? Pretty nice? I think I'll go for them.

Thanks! :D

Yes, I think they look quite nice. Maybe not as nice as the look of the leather seats, but without them, they won't look that nice for long. I guess it comes down to what you personally like. I like them. If someone else doesn't, oh well! I know that my buddy doesn't like them, but it's not his car either. I'll do whatever I can to protect the look and beauty of my Corvette, regardless of what others think or say. I want mine to stay as original as possible. That was my goal from day one, 24 years ago. I think I achieved that goal pretty well, in my opinion.

Okay, you have me convinced. Just for searching purposes, what exactly are these covers called so I can find them?

Thanks! :D

I use Lexol products on my Corvette. They have products to clean and protect that work really well. If you are concerned about protecting your seats you can get another set to put in the car and leave those with aftermarket covers.

Don't use Armor All or similar products -- on anything! Personally, I've used The Tannery on leather and vinyl with good luck for over 20 years.

And as far as the seat covers go...oooh, that's really gonna impress your friends! They'll be sure to ask you why you're not wearing your pocket protector, too.

Just keep the seats nice and clean. And when it comes time, they can be reupholstered.

I thought they were called Seat Savers, but I am not completely sure. If you have the lastest Mid-America catalog, I know they are in there. That's where I got mine. They really are the only ones, other than the wool skin covers, that I know of. They are about $70 a set.

Okay, I'll look around the magazine and see if I can find them. As for products on the care of the seats, I'll just use the Leather cream for them so they don't dry out.

I second the Lexol Leather Cleaner and Conditioner (two separate products) - they've been making it for about 75 years, and it works. I've used it on the Connolly leather in my Ferraris for 30 years, and it keeps the leather nice and supple; leather is nearly indestructible (other than punching holes in it), but if it's allowed to dry out, it will start cracking, especially if the car is parked outdoors in the sun. I Lexol my (garaged) leather-trimmed cars about twice a year, leather still looks (and feels) like new.

Ditto on the Lexol comments from John and Dynamic! Rob recommended Lexol to me when I purchased Kelly's car last August. The car is 3 years old and the seats had never been treated so they were dry and hard as a rock. After just two Lexol treatments they rival a baby's behind for softness.
