Ok, I need some advice on tunning my carb on my 80. I'll run ya thru what's going on... replaced the heads ( same as original, stage 1 port job) cam, Energizer 266H, Aluminum L82 intake, (which was on the car) new duals, not cats. Put it all back together, ran fine, as a matter of fact ran great! Did the break in, changed the oil, and ran another 100 miles or so, and decided to start tuning the carb, which I removed the caps from the adjusters while I had everything apart, made my little tool to turn the screws, hooked up the vacuum guage and started to play. I searched for the highest vacuum, and the idle smoothed right out, and the car really purred. I thought I really had somethng, then I took the car for a drive and the low end torque and response was gone, it became a down right pig. Came home and rechecked the timming, it was fine, what happened?:hb

Float level too high?

Knock off a vacuum line?

Is the carb one of the computer-controlled ones? If so, you still have to disconnect the 4-wire connector before adjusting the timing.

OR, before adjusting the carb, did you jack up the idle speed? I usually bring mine up to about 1500-2000, then adjust the carb for max vacuum. Then bring the idle back down for final adjusting on the timing.

Hope this helps!

No I don't have the computer controlled model, would the float level change from just adjusting the idle mixture screws? I got rid of egr valve, and plugged all unused lines. Even my secondary kickdown seems to have lost some punch, checked the linkage, and the openings, and everything seems to be working fine. I am going to see if I can get the adjuster screws back to where they where from factory, and start over again. Any suggestions would be helpful!
