Quench................Worth It Or Not?

Zero deck height and even positive deck height is not uncommon in racing engines where it is vital to obtain an exact compression or volume but they do this by using some of the space supplied by the head gasket, no matter how thin, to get minimum clearances. Anything above that will end in disaster even if the contact is brief. At high rpm even a split second of contact time will result in many hits and disaster before you can even think about lifting on the throttle. Even our corrupt congress can't repeal the simple law of physics that states that two solid objects cannot occupy the same space at the same time.

I suggest you re-read that article.

Ruined Engine Blocks

I really hate to see perfectly good Chevrolet V8 engine blocks ruined just to achieve a better "quench" when the need for the quench is just a Chevrolet small block myth started by ignorant people then passed on to other ignorant people. A quench is needed for two cycle engines but NOT for four cycle engines. But once a myth gets started and well established in the Chevrolet rumor mill there's no stopping it. Oh well.
