Hey Everyone,

I know very little about camshafts. I was playing with Comp Cams cam selection/dyno program it helped a lot. It has narrowed it down to a few choices.

I suppose the main question is "what do I want the car to be."
I don't race. I don't go to the drag strip or track.
I want something that I can drive on a regular basis, but with more power than I have now.

i was thinking about this one:

I was hoping someone here that knows more about cams could give me some feedback.

Thanks!

That will work. Get a kit that comes with lifters, seals and timing chain. I am installing the XE262H and I know Tepot has installed the XE268H. Don't go any bigger unless you are thinking of swapping out the heads.

Can this installation be done with the engine in the car, or do I have to pull the motor to get the old cam out and new cam in?

Thanks!

You'll need to pull the radiator and the a/c condenser should swing up far enough (carefully) to get the old out and the new in. You'll need a balancer puller/installer, pan gaskets, front engine gaskets, intake and valve cover gaskets too. I use 2 long 5/16 bolts as a handle on the cam to help guide it and not ding the cam bearings.

I didn't quite have enough room with the A/C condensor pushed forward as far as it would go. If you unbolt and remove the headlight vacuum cans it'll make it no problem.

That link will definitely help me find the correct cam.
Thank you very much!

When removing the cam, I was able to get the cam out of an 81 just by removing the radiator, the A/c unit behind the radiator just needs a little finess. You may bump a few fins, you'll be within 1/16 inch of it. It'll just squeak out.
The only bummer part about doing the job is dropping the front of the pan to remove the chain cover

I thought so but I'll know for sure in a few weeks. Thanks...
