Do they have a "Clear Coating" Applied to them by the Factory??
Need to know BEFORE using some Aluminum Polish on them???
Thank's!:D

This Stuff I've got is for taking out "Scratches" etc etc, Couple of my Wheel's
have some MINOR but Long scratches that are rather annoying.

Brand Name is "Master Formula Metal Gloss" it's NOT a "WAX"...

I believe all Corvette factory wheels on the C4 cars were clear coated. You can strip the clear coat and clean and/or polis the machined part and then re-apply a clear coat. The varrious accessory catalogs carried wheel refinishing kits at one time and they may still be available. Mid-America has a "Wheel Restoration Kit" p/n 100-919 for $40.00. They also have spray cans of VHT Clear Coat for wheels p/n 100-922 for $10.00

Save the 40 bucks and buy a gallon of acetone, a roll of paper towels. Any used spray bottle is needed also. I did mine 3+ years ago and they came out great. And I didn't re-clear them.
Of course now having the chromes on it's even more work keeping them clean. I'll be happy to tell you how I did mine if you'd like. Just shoot me an e-mail for the process. It takes about an hour per wheel.

The repair manual for the 1990 has detailed information to refinish the wheels. Could be that they all have it.

I tried that at first. I bought the expensive clear coat remover. I applied it as directed but if it was really quiet, you could hear the clearcoat laughing. I switched to the acetone and it stopped laughing really quickly. It's a bit harder to use as it evaporates quickly but that's where the paper towels come in.
Either way, it's a labor intensive proposition.
