I have been told that the battery in my '99 will not charge unless it is being driven. In other words if I run the car in the garage it is discharging as I run it. Sounds weird to me.:w :pat

HI there,
Well, honestly, it depends. If the vehicle is just idling, you are not really charging the battery, you are only sustaining the vehicle electrical system with the alternator. You need to surpass the electrical load, to add electricity to the battery, and that will only happen above 1500 rpm. The ampere output of the alternator at idle is simply not enough. It will only put out more amps, when rpms are above 1500.
I hope that this answers your question.
