Hello
I am new to this site and I was told by a member that I should by manuals and look things up myself before I post here.
Is that the way this site works?
Doesn't sound very friendly, since I didn't get any answers yet that helped me.
Thanks, Jim

Having the manuals is always a good thing, but they don't tell all. So ask all the question you like.:beer As for myself, as well as most people here, I'am always willing to help if I can. Ask away and become a friend here.

One of my posts suggested you purchase the AIM and the GM chassis service manual. It's good advice, Jimbil208.

I restored my 69 three times and I wish this forum existed at the time .I loved the car for the first 300,000 miles :D

I agree with Gary!
We didn't get here by being experts overnight. We all have been on a long learing curve over many years, some by trial and error.
If not for the help of my friends on this forum, I would still be wrestling with the problems my Vette had when I first got it.

Having a basic understanding of automotive technology is a good place to start. I learned cars in high school, and am thankful for the education my shop teachers imparted to me.
The 1982 Corvette is a challege to master, when it comes to the electronics and mechanical systems that were integrated together for that short time span. Since 1982 and 1984 were the only two years the Chevrolet produced the Crossfire injection system in the Corvette, there are only 2 model years that any of this information and knowledge applies to directly.

Geekinavette has some excellent troubleshooting info and wiring diagrams on his website. Thaks Bill!

Look up some of my old posts on the C3 tech forum, since a lot of them are 82 related. I have been through every system in the car except the heater core, which is still in a box.:) And use the search engine function of this forum to get old posts on all sorts of problems that we have worked on in the past. There's lots of good stuff there.

Keep asking questions and keep plugging away at the problems one at at time. Don't try to do too much at once, as it can get pretty overwhelming and confusing to diagnose and correct too many things at once.

Good luck.:w

Absolutely! You'll find as you get more use from the car and drive it more that it will require some TLC from time to time, because it's almost 30 years old. Folks on the Forum will always be willing to help, but logic dictates that you should have at least a basic technical library to help you understand the car and its systems, like the owner's manual, Assembly Manual, and the GM Shop Manuals.

If you get into something over your head or that's beyond your skills and tools and have to take it somewhere to be diagnosed and repaired, how many places do you suppose have 30-year-old Shop Manuals for Corvettes? Not many, and you don't want people working on your car that don't understand it.

Spend a few bucks and get the books - it's like going back to school. :)
