Radar Detectors Help Prevent Speeding Tickets

Yeah, that is bad. Your might hit a kid staring at your speedo. Cops aren't even present in my area, it's mostly camera tickets.

I know a customer that got a ticket because they were not going the 20 mph stated on the sign 300 FEET BEFORE IT! Not posted anywhere, and no lines to tell you where the 300' marker is, if you even knew that the law existed.

F'ing revenue chaser states.

That stupid! If they want you to be doing 20mph 300ft earlier why not just move the sign so everyone knows where the limit change is rather than relying on peoples estimation of a distance.

I'm with you, that would of course make sense, but of course that would cut into the revenue.......not going to happen. So much for safety.

Another customer told me that after being pulled over by a State Patrol for going too fast that they got a ticket for not producing the insurance card in a timely matter. She found and produced the card, but still got a ticket. She took it to court and the judge stated that she had only 30 seconds to produce the proof of insurance card, the ticket was not dropped but I believe that the fine was reduced.

Plus I am pretty sure that we have the highest gas tax in the nation.

It least you are reuired to have insurance. Insurance here is optional.

We have a good system here for certain things. They'll give you what they call "compliance", which gives you 14 days to correct the issue. If you do correct it then the fine is dropped.

When I am traveling out of town and away from civilization I often become mesmerized

No one?

I can't believe it
I left it for someone else to critique!

I guess when it comes to our resident genius everyone expected no less

As usual our resident genius performed dismally as expected.

My radar detector picks up lasers which are directional. I was driving at 57 in a 55 and was passed by a Chrysler 300. Now, one guess who was zapped by a laser, a Corvette or a 300?
As the only way I would have known was the screech instead of a beep makes guessing easy,

IMO, a excellent radar detector is a necessity. In some states, a good lawyer is a necessity also..

TBTR:
I doubt your 1980s detector is up to the task. Simply because the newer radars aren't in the old X-band. I've read no LE agency uses the X-band anymore..

There might be a few older kits around but I doubt it. The manufacturers stopped producing X-band sets back in the late 1980s.

I am a chronic speeder but my record is clean for two reasons first I've been incredibly lucky .Second I travel fast enough so it's usually reported as a UFO . I never speed in areas where pedestrians walk or school zones .:thumb

I'm old and don't have much time to waste .

Although every level of government would deny it, lower speed limits have very little to do with driving safety. When scientifically studied, road designs are more important than speed limits. When the speed limit is deliberately set lower than the speed allowed by road design, traffic safety suffered for a variety of reasons.

Most speed limits come down to is nanny state thinking on the part of governments with an appetite for revenue gathering via traffic fines... and laziness on the part of police officers who write the "easy" ticket instead of finding ways to target unsafe drivers.

This about says it all where I live, although are several roads that the speed limit is just to high. The current speed limit was set 30 to 50 years ago when there was less traffic, less driveways, etc. When I drive below the speed limit I get tailgated, and when I go the speed limit, I have trouble with drivers pulling out in front of me.
I'll have to look into the fuzz buster thing here in MI.

What side of Michigan stevo?

There is one road where I live that resembles what you describe. The speed limit is 50mph (80km/h) for a two mile stretch of 4 lane blacktop with traffic lights every half mile or so. On either side of this stretch, the speed limit is 36 mph (60km/h). Most drivers continue at 36mph through the stretch rather than speeding up and then slowing down... so I see people weaving in and out OR tailgating like mad. That being said, I only seen one collision in the two years that I've been driving through the area daily... and I haven't seen much police enforcement in that stretch either...

Why I Use A Radar Detector

They are a good reminder to CHECK YOUR SPEED. A sudden beeping and red light flashing is a good attention getter and makes us realize we're not alone. When I am traveling out of town I actually prefer to drive slower because the scenery along the way is far more important to me than getting there faster.

I now recommend the Oval Beach to friends. It's become a family, and family friendly beach. All the dunes is now state park, state owned. No more monkey business. Some things do change for the good.

Good to hear, sounds like a plan for next summer
