Does anyone know how the radio antenna cable is run? Does the dash have to be tampered with and what is the routing of the cable?

HI there,
It depends on what you mean.
In the 97 model year, there is 2 antennas on the vehicle, one at the top of the windshield, and one on the rear glass.
Now, the windshield mounted one has a cable that runs down the drivers side A pillar, along the drivers door sill, to the antenna module, located below the drivers upper seat belt retractor.
Now, the rear antenna cable runs to the drivers side module, by the B pillar.
At the module, the main feed, to the radio, runs along the drivers door sill, to the radio, through the dash.
So, with this, alot must be removed to access all the components here.
Please let us know what issue you are dealing with, and we can assist further.

Where is the antenna in the rear? Are the tabs holding the trim going to be damaged removing them? Where exactly is this part in the seat belt retractor? Is this something I can do myself or is it better to have the dealer do it? I have a ticking sound in my radio and a suggeestion was made to me to unplug the antenna from the radio to see if the ticking was still there.

HI there,
If you remove the drivers sill piece, by pulling straight up, and then toward the rear of the car, this will come out.
Then, just where the rear panel is, that covers both seat belt retractors, you can see the belt coming through. Pull this panel toward the center console, and from under the upper panel. It will come out, without damage. Then remove the belt from the slots, and take the panel out.
Once out, you will see a small aluminum box, with 3 cable leads, and an electrical connnector.
With that, you can disconnect all 3, and that will effectively disconnect your antenna, and see if your noise is still there.
Please keep us posted, c4c5:hb

I got the panel off and located the booster. The ticking noise stops when I unpluged the front antenna. Could it be the antenna wire or the booster?

Hi there,
The first thing, is there any aftermarket accessories on the radio system????
Next, I would say that there would have to be a check of the ground wire, at the antenna module.
Please make sure that this is clean and tight.
Let us know, c4c5:hb
