This is the first winter that I have had my 1998 C5. I let the battery die and have recently replaced it with an Optima Red Top (per recomendations from this site). Now I cannot get my sterro to unlock. I cannot find the password anywhere. What the heck can I do????

Nope, but someday.
Hithere,
If you take your car to your dealer, it should only take about 10 mins to extract the factory backup code, and then call in for the new number.
Contact your local dealership, to see if they will do it for you while they wait.

For all of us that have not had this problem yet, where is the code typically kept so we'll know in the future?

The Theftlock code is set by the owner and there is a set procedure of how you unlock the system (buttons have to pushed in a specific order). I actually knew the code for my Theftlock and it took me a day of driving in silence and punching buttons before I finally went to the owners manual for the button sequence to unlock. I try to make it a habit to disable the Theftlock each time I take the car in for any kind of electrical system service.

If you bought the car used and the Theftlock was already set, I'm not sure what you have to do to get the code cleared. Perhaps you can just set a new one; if so it should say so in the owner's manual. Perhaps Paul (c4c5specialist) can shed some light on this.

You should set the code yourself and write it down . Keep it in the house with important papers .

I set my code and keep it in a safe place in case I need it. This is the best thing to do otherwise it is a pain to find the code.

Hi Jem If a red light flashes on your radio with the key off , then there is already a code set and you should check with the previous owner . Hopefully he knows the # . If theres no flashing red light , refer to page 3-26 in your manual . If you don't have it , let me know and I'll print the directions for you . Cliff

I finally had a GM dealer reset the radio for the 1/2 hour price of $37.50. There is absolutely no way, according the Chevrolet, to get the password if it is forgotten, so please write it down!!!! It can never be retrieved if forgotten, only reset by a GM computer. Word to the wise - write down the password and remember where you put it!!!!!
