Anyone know if you can put a filter on the alternator and get rid of the static on the radio. I got a couple of cheap ones and put on the power to the radio, but still static. Is the ground bad or what?

yes, the ground is poor. it is a notorious problem with C3's to have poor dash grounds. try re-grounding the radio to the frame via a wire screwed to both. if your gauges start tweaking out, they may be developing the same problem. you can also check with sterio install shops about the alternator filters. Also make sure that...

Brian is right-on, but also make sure that the original metal-shielding is present around your hi-tension wires and distributor, as spurious electro-magnetic radiation could also overpower your antenna-signal , -and check the ground-wire at your antenna...

Hey JB ;)

Quick question? Is this static on AM only or does it come through on FM and the tape drive too?

The shielding that fits over the Distributor has aluminum shielding on the underside that has a ground strap that goes to the head. Also be sure to check the capacitor on your fuse block, esp if you hear your signals clicking on the AM side of the dail ;)

And ofcourse as the others have said, good grounds are extremely important to helping solve these types of radio interference..

I need to find that photo of Brad behind the wheel of Rare..

Thanks for the info. I will try the ground first. The static occurs in in all situations, AM, FM & CD.
