Does anybody have a photo of a red c4 with raised white lettered tires on it? I might get some new ones this summer and I'm thinking about some lettered tires.
Thanks,
John.

Lettered Tires

Heyspike,

Sorry I don't have pictures of white lettered tires on a red C4 vette - but I do have an opinion. Over the years I've owned a lot of Corvettes and other muscle cars. Certainly there was a time when white lettered tires were the style including the "outlined" white lettered look.

But I've found as time goes on I perfer the cleaner look of black wall tires. They look especially nice when they are armoraled and the detail of the raised letters can still be seen. It's a nice look - agressive, but understated.

Regards - Remo

P.S. Thanks for dedicating your life to firefighting. Hope this year is a safe and productive one for you and your fellow firefighters.

Oh my God, this had better be a joke! White lettered tires were cool on your brother's El Camino, or your Dad's beat up Chevy Pickup... But a C4?? Be real... Do the words LOW PROFILE mean anything to you?? Have some pride man, and keep it real!

Doug

sorry, but seriously, wouldnt' it bug you to see a nice C4 driving down the road with a set of BFGoodrich T/A's with the white letters facing out? Not only are 90% of white letter tires a lot TALLER then stock, but it just isn't meant to be!!!

Doug

Sorry guys, must have struck a nerve out there! Just wanted to see a pic if someone did it.:eyerole

Don't go with the white letters!

I think others have stated it less eloquently, but I believe the raised white letters will look out of place on a C4 or any car with low profile tires. I currently have raised white letters on my '78, but wil be foregoing that once I get the larger-diameter rims. FWIW, I also have raised white letters on my 5.0 Explorer! Ultimately, it's your decision, so go with you think looks best.

Look at the real '95 pace car. It has "Goodyear" written in yellow on it. I think it looks good.

I would try it to see what it'd look like. I toyed with the idea of Rallye wheels on a C4 but never got around to pursuing it, when someone here at the CAC (I can't remember who it was now. :()did it and it looks real good!! :upthumbs

No reason raised white letters can't look good too, you just gotta try it. Got any photo editing software? ;)

You are only limited by your imagination. :Twist

IMHO, on a red or black car they'd look good. On about any other color, no. My red Subaru came with RWL tires from the factory; they looked good when new but the white quickly yellowed and never really got bright regardless of how much I tried to clean them. Replaced them with blackwalls and honestly the car looks about as good.

Actually, I think on a red convertible with white top they'd look stunning.

Yes, but, we aren't talking about Subarus, or Explorers here. Those both have a high sidewall tire. There isn't a tire made, in the size that comes factory on a C4 that would offer you a RWL tire. The C3's look great with them, because they not only had a taller tire, but, it was 'in' with that generation to use RWL, kind of gave the car it's appeal. That same "appeal" applied to any C4 would not only look ridiculous, but dramatically out of place. If you think I'm lying, call my bluff... Do this... Start a poll here, and on the other two big Vette Forums, and see what the consensus is, but, do not link to this post, let people decide for themselves... If I'm wrong, I'll eat a big pile of my dog's crap... but, for some reason, I think I'll be sticking with my Dinty More.
It is a huge matter of opinion, but, it's also a matter of what CAME on the car, what type of tires (low profile) your running, and what look your trying to achieve... Get a C3 if you want that look.

Doug

JMHO but raised white letters or outline white letters are out of place on a C-4 or C-5 Vette. You won't find them on mine, ever. Now on a Shark? Absolutely a go. Amos

You know, it would be easy to find out.

I have not checked in ages, but the auto parts stores have sold white lettering crayons in the past. They may still have them.

You would clean the tire really well with soap and water, and a little mineral spirits on the lettering portion. You then take the special lettering crayon and color in the letters on the tires. It really does work.

It is not permanent, so if you don't like it, wash it off with some gasoline or mineral spirits, etc. However it would make for a fun Saturday afternoon.

The C4 of 86 came with 50 series tires and since they weren't that wide they are much taller than you think. They might not look that bad on those years.

On the 40 series tires of the late C4's you probably wouldn't' find a RWL tire that would fit. Personaly I like the outline letters on the tires versus the solid letter.

You can buy BFG Comp T/A's in 50-series with RWL; not sure if they make them in 45 or 40. They also have drag radials with white letters though I think those are 15" 50-series.

Find me a set of 315/17's with RWL and I'll put this to rest... Your talking about 15" tires here... Apples to Oranges

Here's a page of RWL tires that lists applications for Camaros and Mustang GT's but doesn't list specific sizes:
<http://www.wheelworks.net/TiresWheels/Raised.html>

My point was that if you DID want them, you COULD get them, though perhaps not in your exact size (I can get them for my 86's 16" wheels, for example, and Ken can get them for his 15" front wheels).

The style, btw, is called "Cosmetic performance"
