Rattles,Rattles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi

I checked everything under my car that l was able to reach without a lift for a loose part.
To my amazement, l couldn't find a thing!
The only thing that comes to mind is that my emergency brake handle next to my seat seems to be screwed up. Could the emergency brake shoes be loose??

There has to be somebody out there that has or had this problem.
With the poor build quality of GM, l cannot be the only vette owner that has this problem.

Noises Alan, are difficult enough to diagnose when you're trying to relate that information to your mechanic personally, that is, face-to-face. Trying to diagnose a noise via the Internet is a little more difficult, therefore one should be as specific as possible when stating their question. Try again.

When my front tire's hit a seam on the road it sounds like it is coming from the front of the car. It almost feels like the brake disc pads are loose, but l know that they are not. It really sounds like something is real loose (like my brain).

When my rear tires go over the same bump, l hear it again.
l know from previous cars that the rattle doesn't always come from the place where you think it is coming from.

My feeling is that it could tied into the emergency brake system because the first time l engaged the emergency brake. it got stuck until l pulled it back further to disengage it.

l also tried to check the exhaust system but it's hard to crawl under the vette without a lift.

Any leads would be appreciated.

I had the same type of noise and it turned out to be the fuel filter and the shield that protects it. The filter was loose in its bracket and one or the other was clanking around as I encountered bumps in the road. Puzzled me for a while.

Check those things out and look around all over. You'll have to get your hands on things to jiggle them to see if anything is loose. If that turns up nothing, we can take it from there.

You say you think it might be related to your emergency brakes. I know there are some brake cables that pass very near to the exhaust pipes as they route from one rear wheel to the other rear wheel. I wonder if these are slack and might be knocking against the pipes?

The small pipe that feeds the right side of the Cat on my 90 rattles from time to time. I chased this rattle for months because with the car on a lift everything looked and felt OK.

Found the Rattles!!!

I found the rattles last night, here goes;

1) The rail covers are not snug enough, seem to rattle a little.

2) The ASR black (plastic) box, again is not snug enough.

3) This is the major rattle, right behind the drivers side horn is a bracket that looks like an upside down flat golf club, that has a 1inchx1inch black box that slides onto the bracket. This is my major rattle.

The question is what can l do? l thought of using electrical black tape or some kind of tie down, what could you suggest?

A bit of 3M silicon sealer will hold things in place but not prevent removal should it become necessary.

Ya know, I found some stuff lying around Will's shop, but I forget what it was called now. At any rate, it came in a tube, the contents of which consisted of two parts that once you sliced off the amount you think you need, you knead (pun intended? :L) the two parts between your fingers, then stick it between the two pieces you wish to join together.

It seemed at first that it made a very permanent bond between the two pieces of plastic I was trying to hold together, but a cool thing about it that I discovered is that without too much effort, I was able to separate the two again with no damage.

As I stated, I forget the name right now :duh but I'll try to get it this afternoon. Going to talk to someone about my wiring issues now.

Now, that leaves the ASR box and the rail covers. The ASR box, l will tie it with plastic ties (pressure ones for wire's) and the rail covers???

Hey Spanishvetts, l get the feeling you are a fly boy. l was at Lackland then Amarillo, and wound up in Bklyn,NY. But that was in 65-71. Anyway my brother went to school for 1 year in Santandra, Spain. l'm not sure that l spelled it right.
