From the C5R,.. GM on Feb 24th is dropping Speedway White, QuickSilver, and in May Electron Blue. They are also making a "SPECIAL" GOLD "one off" C5 job#14949. Could this "one off" car be a pilot gold car for the rest of the model year? Something is about to happen why else drop 3 colors early? Or could it be The Cadillac XLR is to taxing to the paint shop so Corvette owners will suffer and loose colors to the wrieth and crest XLR.

Hi there,
The reason for the build out of these 3 colors you have listed, is that they have used up paint material stock for the model year, and all allocated orders are filled.
As far as what will happen from there, or what other reasons are, you might have something.

Once again, I ask, rather than post speculation:

Something is about to happen why else drop 3 colors.

State the facts, and supply your souces. This isn't a rumor mill...

If you would read my post you would see its from the C5R. The Official C5 Registry members page. Im also sure they just dont "Run out of paint" for a model year. The C5R says the colors are being dropped and if you want one you better order now.

Oh....sorry. I forgot to pull out my dictionary to look up the term "C5R" (which most people equate to C5-R race car).

There isn't enough of the model year left to start building a gold car (as far as feb. to the end of the year) and it is normal for the corvette to have colors end in mid year production (Feb. is actually fairly late in the production of cars anyway) because, the Corvette plant paints cars in batches... so they will build a bunch of yellow, then a bunch of white etc.... Those three colors were picked to be the first ones done... look around your chevy dealer every year right before the new model comes out... you will see certain colors there, and certain colors missing (or very few of) this will go for almost all dealers around the country... If someone wants an electron blue car late in the year, it will be hard to find, just like some other colors were hard to find for late 2002 models.

Someone like you Rob a Webmaster of a Corvette site should be a member of the C5R. You would be better informed as to whats happening with our current car.

I'm more informed on some things than you think I am.

Hi there,
Run out is incorrect term, and for that, I apologize.
Now, there is NO confirmation about this from Corvette engineering at this time. Speculation is moot at this point.
Build out, is build out, so I am leaving this subject alone.
C5registry is very informative, however, it is NOT the end all for Corvette information, and they do NOT claim to be.
I would suggest, that until there is confirmation, we not concern ourselves with what is NOT known.
So, with that, keep your ear to the horn, and there may be some information at a later date, however, for now, there is NOTHING confirmed on a updated color choice.
Corvette engineering messed with a goldish color back in 99, when they were planning the 50th, and could NOT get the paint correct, and even. So that color was scrapped at that time.
As for XLR consuming paint time, possibly, however, the actual paint process for XLR is a little different than that of c5. And that they are only planning on making about 1000-2000 units a year, I am curious about it.
Lets wait and see what happens from the www.corvette50th.com, which is the official website for the 50th c5.

I saw this same page earlier today. Based on this guy's earlier news postings, the info he puts up tends to be pretty reliable. I was routinely checking this page when info on the 50th was slowly leaking out.

I personally wouldn't try to read any more into this, but in my opinion I think it's safe to assume that he can back up what he posted. Rick Conti is a big Vette dealer (not as big as Rick Daniel, though) and has a reputation to worry about.

If you guys would read what I wrote above you would know its totally true. The one off Gold Coupe wears VIN 1G1YY22G035114811. Its just to bad GM didnt have the balls to make all the 50th cars gold instead of the UGLY copycat of the 40th car.

I've read what you wrote over and over, but you're not reading what I wrote above. I want speculation kept out of here. Period.

Just because the information is posted in the C5 Registry does not mean it's gospel....and no, I have no reason to "know its totally true".

Either state the facts, list the sources and keep the quips and comments out, or don't post stuff like this unless you know what you're talking about.

Unless you work for GM, and you have the ability to speak for GM and sign your name to your post as a GM employee, then I see this thread as holding little credibility.

In the past, you've bad mouthed GM for their version of the C5...well, as I've stated here before, if you think you can make a difference, then contact Chevrolet Customer Assistance and apply for a job on the Corvette Development team. Otherwise, keep your insults ("Its just to bad GM didnt have the balls to make all the 50th cars gold instead of the UGLY copycat of the 40th car.") out of here. Case closed.

From the Bowling Green Corvette Plant Newsletter, "Performance Press" - November 14, 2002:

Get ready, Bowling Green, we’re going to build a one of a kind Gold Corvette! Our JD Power goal this year is to be the best plant in North America – to win the JD Power Gold Award. In our journey to be the best, we are building a one of a kind gold
Corvette next week. The car will be an automatic coupe with a black interior. Engineering has specially designed unique detailing for the car as well. It’s going to be a beauty!! Our build schedule shows the car coming off the end of the line first thing Monday, November 25th. That means it will be assembled Thursday,
November 21st and Friday, November 22nd. You will have the opportunity to sign the car on the frame as it is built. Next week’s Performance Plus will have detailed information about the
build. Congratulations and special thanks go out to the paint
department. They did an awesome job of specially painting the gold panels a few weeks ago. Without their support and creativity the gold car would not have been possible. The Gold Corvette will be made available to employees to drive on a
nightly basis. Rules and regulations are still being determined. Look for more information in next week’s Performance Press about the guidelines. In June the National Corvette Museum will raffle off the car during the 50th Anniversary Celebration.
Profits from the car will go to the Museum’s operating fund and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Get ready to go gold Bowling
Green!
