2000 Corvette convertible purchase new and have had constant shock absorbers squeak problems left rear shock at 1200 mi. front right shock at 1400 mi. left front shock 1450 mi. and right rear shock at 2500 mi. that were replaced under warranty by dealer. At 3200 mi. all four shocks at my expense had to be replaced again along with four tires at a cost of over $6,000 dollars. I cannot believe two sets of shock absorbers and one set of tires would need to be replaced within 3200 mi. when Goodyear examined the tires their ride dynamics technician from Atlanta said the shocks were defective due to the ripples in the tire and that he has never seen this before with a car at this mileage. Has anyone had similar problems, if so contact me.

HI there,
Your right, and I really dont believe it either.
First off, what part of the shock is squeaking??
Is it the actuator, bushings, or the shaft itself as it slides in and out of the shock body??
As far as causing the tire issue, possible, but what type of wear is on the tire??
If it is just scalloping, then I would really want to see the alignment specifications that would tell me for sure.
I find it extremely hard to believe 4 F45 shocks need to be replaced again.
Location of the car could also help the diagnosis, especially if you are located near the ocean.

The squeak occurs as the shaft slides in and out under load. I live about 2 mi. from the Atlantic Ocean in South Florida. The tires had serious signs of scalloping and all suspension settings were verified by Goodyear and found to be corrected. The scalloping occurred on all four tires with the font being the worst. I also have a 99 with no problems.

Hi there,
Here is a tip.
Spray some WD40 on the shafts of the shocks.
This may drive the moisture from the shaft seals, and repair your concern.
Scalloping could be a factor of a incorrect toe setting.
