I noticed on my rear calipers there is an extra bleeder on it. However I cannot get it loose on either one (brand new calipers too). Does that one need to be bled out as well?

the ones on top need to be bled one on the inside and one on the outside . I have seen bleeders on the bottoms before just a half a--ed rebuild i guess . but there is 2 on the rear one on the front all on top :w Steve

Cool. Thanks a lot!

Are you sure you have an extra bleeder on the rears or only a plug on each outer?

:)

That's why I asked. it looks like there is an extra bleeder (I think it is on the outer half) that is a slightly different size and doesn't want to come loose when I try to loosen it to bleed. If I shouldn't be doing that please let me know. I'm not putting enough pressure on it because I don't want to snap it off (been there, done that before)

Each rear caliper half, inner and outer, has it's own bleeder. On the outer caliper half, lower rear, you should find a plug. Post a pic of what you're looking at.

I have a 5/16th 1/4" drive deep socket I use to get bleeders loose. Loosen/tighten only. Once the bleeder is loose, I use my 5/16th flare nut wrench for bleeding.

:)

I should have thought about using a socket. I'll give that a shot, maybe I had a gorilla tightening the bleeders at the rebuilder.

I'll post a pic if I still have issues.
Thanks!

If you have lower bleeders I would not touch them. They should be plugs. They serve little purpose since air will rise in the caliper the top bleeders should be sufficent to bleed properly. If they don't leak leave them alone only bad things can happen if you try to loosen them.

...They serve little purpose...

They have their purpose. Rear calipers are swappable; they will fit left or right side. Depending on which side you install them, you may have to take out the plug to connect the brake line.

White75: easy with the socket. You only need loose. If the bleeder feels stuck, leave it, shoot some more penetrant on it, and let it sit a while longer.

Thanks. Wifey comes home today so if she's not too tired from her trip I'll have her help me bleed the brakes again.

You don't have to wait for, or bother "wifey"....

I installed "speed bleeders" in my Vette and Camaro and love em. They have a small ball bearing in them that prevents air from entering back into the brake system when bleeding the fluid. It allows a one-person process to bleed the system. My wife was getting tired of assisting with this.

I was a bit skeptical at first, but after successfully bleeding the system by myself, I was convinced this is way to do it.

I got the Russell Speed Bleeders at Summit for my Camaro -- but I found a generic set at Advance Auto that cost less. I got these for my Vette and they work just fine.
:w

Hmm. I may have to look into the speed bleeders. :)

Got the speed bleeders. They did make the bleeding so much easier. Too bad I still have the problem. I got the ones from Autozone (HELP! brand) for $9 a pair. I like them so much I may get some for my M3 as well

Yep, those are the same generic brand speed bleeders I got for the '69.

6880 Mike is correct, the caliper halves are interchangeable. There should be a plug on the bottom outside opposite the brake line and a bleeder on the top of each half. only those two should be bled.

Sooooooooo
After you have bled them with these speed bleeders, do you remove them and replace them with standard bleeders?
