Hey Guys,
I need some help with the chassis on my 76. The rear cross member that goes perpendicular to the main chassis has pretty much rusted out. Its the one that the differential case is bolted on to. I tried calling GM to see if I could get that peice of the chassis. No luck, its discontinued. I could fabricate this peice but it would be a lot of trouble. The welding is not a problem. I just don't know where to find this peice. I'm in Toronto Canada, just a little North of some of you. If anybody could PLEASE help me or give me some advice as where to get this part.
Note: The rest of the chassis is in really good condition, which I know is strange. The only thing thats shot is this cross member.
I'm planning to do a body lift in the summer when it warms up a little here.

Thanks Guys,
Tom

You're not going to find that piece anywhere but another known-good frame or from a fabricator. Even when C3 frames were still available, you bought them complete or not at all. GM did not sell the differential x-member by itself.

Also, if you have a section of the frame that is that badly rusted, do not jump to the conclusion that the rest of the frame is ok until you get the body off, have the frame blasted then closely inspect it.

You should be able to find a used one without much problem. They were bolted into the main frame and have two rubber bushings on each end. I've seen them at most vette swap meets or vette shops. I think that Caladonia in MI makes them new as well.

By the way, they list it for up to 1974. You may want to give them a call.

Probably cheaper than bringing in something from the US.

And you won't have to fear the dreaded "MAD FRAME DISEASE" problem!!!:crazy :crazy

Thanks fo all the helpful info guys. I'll have to take a better look at some suppliers. The corvette central is a great website, thanks. By the way I'm in Toronto. The only guy around here is Central Corvette, and he's quite pricey. If anyone knows of any other places in Ontario I'd greatly appreciate it.
