Rear Compartment - Battery door seal?

My car when I acquired it didn't have this on it. Where is it applied? Obviously not around the part on the door, this would cause the door not to shut. under the lip on the actual compartment frame?

The foam seal is applied to the lip of the compartment frame so that the bottom edge of the door pushes against it when closed. Various vendors sell the seal.
