I was wondering if a dana44 will go where a dana36 presently is and what if any extra stuff is needed to make it work.

Yes
The D44 nose is approx 1" longer so in a C4 you need the D44 ( stick car ) C beam and driveshaft.
Some have just redrilled the holes in the C beam to fit.
All the other suspension parts are the same

Are you running a C4 trans in yours?

No I bought a 1990 corvette. I'de like to upgrade to a dana44 is all

So basically I need that Torque arm thing from differential to back of trans and driveshaft and thats it. will the 6speed torque arm mount to my automatic with no mods?

Correct;
a C beam from ANY stick C4 will bolt in

Because you have a auto you will need to reuse your trans yoke on a 6spd DS unless you get a DS from a 4+3 car.<'89
All stick cars have same length DS ;
ZF6 uses T400 32 spline yoke
Auto / 4+3 use common GM 27 spline yoke
