Can anyone tell me the size of the head of the bolts on the rear of the drive shaft on a 1980, 4 speed Corvette. I know this sounds like a stupid question, but I just can't find a socket to fit. I've tried torx, 6 pt and 12 point, both metric and SAE sockets with no luck. Only thing left is 8 point. Any suggestions ? Thanks in advance. :confused

Sounds like they are pretty rusty. I would spray them up liberally with WD-40 and use a small wire brush on them to clean them up. Then try to put a closed end wrench on them.

SAVE THE :w

If memory serves me, they are 3/8" or 7/16".
You should be able to fit a 6 point box wrench on to them from the side.

I just pulled the half shafts on my 80. There were 2 different bolts holding the straps on. One size was 5/16 6 point and the others were 1/4 inch 12 point. I'm pretty sure the same bolts are used on the drive shaft.

Thanks VRGSVET

The 12 point 1/4" is the ticket. I had tried everything, but a 12 point socket or wrench.

Thanks a MILLION !!
