Rear Glass Trim Removal

Try a very small flat screwdriver! You need to lift the trim a little, slip the screwdriver under it and try to unlock every plastic clip. Try to unlock some of them and slide the trim over the other ones to free it. Don't worry you'll break some of them anyway. But you can order them and replace them. :)

Greetings Peter

I already had one broken clip and I broke another trying to get the clip to release. I have also been told on the Corvette Forum that the glass must come out to replace these clips......is this really true?

Well, I replaced them with the rear glass stil in place, but if you have the time... removing the rear glass could be fun but unnecessary.
If you brake them you can try to get the plastic solid tube out of the rear panel. The tube is part of the clip. But you can also leave the tube in and dril out the tube in the new clip and glue it to the old clip. :)
I think I broke 5 or 6 trying to remove the trim.

When I had the trim removed I also drilled two holed at the bottom of the trim "cutout". When washing the vette water always gethers under the trim, when you start driving the water starts moving over the rear of the car. Now the water is doing down through the holes (I think over the fuel tank). So no move water on the rear after a good carwash :)

And what you also can do is looking where the trim doesn't line up with the rear window. I had a few places where there was space between the window and the trim. By bending the trim (side that clicks into the clip) you can fix that problem.

Greetings Peter

I got the trim off; ended-up using a curved hook tool from harbor Freight. Took me all of 5 minutes to remove the trim. Found several more clips broken, so next project is to attempt to replace the clips with the rear glass in.

I have seven new clips...should probably replace all of them (21)...but will see how this goes first.

I had the original windshield replaced a few years ago. Took two glass guys about an hour to get the windshield out....the old glue was really, really, REALLY tough to cut and the windshield did not want to yield. I had glass splinters everywhere. Not something I want to happen to the rear glass....there is nothing wrong with it.
