When I bought my 80 the rear speakers were kind of hanging in the back and sounded terrible. No bass. I replaced them with some 220Watt 6 x 9 pioneers and they still sounded terrible. I found a link on how to build speaker boxes and mounted the Pioneers in the box. What a difference. Bass! The pic is rough, had to clean up and shampoo the carpet but looks ok till I'm ready to put some new carpet in :beer

wht radio/amp are you using?

Went with a Pioneer DEH1500. 50 watts per channel. Bought a used center console bezel, drew the outline of the radio mounting chassis on the bezel where I wanted the radio to slide in and started cutting with a hacksaw blade very SLOWLY. Finished the cutout with a dremel tool till the mounting bracket fit in. The only problem i had was after I had the mounting bracket in, I slide the radio in, and on the corners where I had ground the bezel with the dremel it chipped away a little too much woodgrain so you could see on the top two corners some imperfections. I took care of that by fitting a rubber O-ring around the radio bezel. The o-ring fits nice and snug, can be removed in a second and actually looks nice the way it forms around the radio. :beer

Im currently redoing the interior. I tried to get the rear speakers to fit but they are too big. So instead I painted the speaker grills the color if the interior. If the new carpet ever gets here I will install them and take a picture. So far the sound is pretty good. Alpine 6x9, Sony 4x6 and a Sony Cd player.

BTW is you 80 Dark mettalic green?

I'm looking at replacing the speakers all around but I'd prefer not to choip anything in. I'm partial to Bose myself has anyone tryed this configuration on any 78 - 80 models?

This is a pic of what I did. Still not up to my standards of bass response...but way way better than before! I plan on installing a sub woofer somewhere, that will really round out the total sound.
