Hey, all.
Does it sound a little bit odd that both rear wheel bearings would require replacing on an '01 with under 20K miles on it? I've got my car in the shop right now because of a very loud droning/whining (louder at higher MPH's) and was told it was the left wheel bearing. Well they replaced it and there is still quite a bit of whining/droning so they've suggested that it be replaced on the right side as well. I told them to go ahead for a cool price of $600 (for both). Just seems a little odd this sort of thing would go bad with the miles it has on it.

(Grrrrrrrrr....I wished it were $600 for both. Got up there and it was $550 EACH.)

Long time no "talk." Yeah, I'm a little concerned, too, about the stab-in-the-dark approach. When the first hub was replaced, they showed me. The mechanic held one side of it and I turned the other side - it did not turn easily - felt "rough." He said the other one was the same... not quite as bad, though. Thinking on it, the car had sat.... the bulk of the miles being put on in the first year. In fact, all but 2K (up until I got it) miles of them were put on in its first year... I purchased it in '04. The mechanic was saying that if a car is frequently raced that ya see this kind of wear on them. He goes through 2 sets each season racing his 'vette, apparently.
