My tint is peeling. I thought about stripping it, re-doing the defogger and then look at re-tint options. Has anyone used the removable pre-formed tint like Corvette Central has?

it came with my car makes a lot of noise scratches easy, took it out and tossed in the trash,Aloha

It came in my car also. You can't see through it very well, but it helps with temps here in Fl. God bless, Sensei

I am contemplating re-tinting my rear glass, but I am sure the old tint will remove a lot of the old defrost strips. has anyone ever re-done these strips? I was thinking if I re-did the de-frost, I don't want to re-tint so that is why I was wondering about the pre-formed plastic, but it sounds like this component isn't "top" quality. I suppose I could see how it works and send it back if I don't like it. All of this because I tried to clean my rear window and tore the tint so it looks crappy right now. I definitely like tinted windows on 81's.

I don't think you can buy a new rear window defogger (stripes) on there own. Another way to fix any broken stripes look ugly to me.

I also have a very dark tint on my rear window and like it. My vette also had a dark tint on the door windows which I didn't like, but at the shop they removed the tint within 2 sec. and put on a nice less dark tint (also the front window.) :).

A thing you maybe can do (if your defogger is still in a saveble state) is to go around your defogger with a knive (very carefully) and first take out alle the tint within and around the defogger. Then start with the tint on the defogger very carefully. When you remove the tint with the direction of the stripes you have less change they brake then when you remove it sideways (I think) Good luck :)

when I 1st bought my vette,It had a dark tint on the side and back windows.the only way I found was to get a razor blade and peel both the film and rear defog off.ended up replacing the rear window...:(

Window tint

My local tint shop has done hundreds of cars as well as mine and uses a 50+50 mix of ammonia and water in a spray bottle, spary it on and use a plastic scraper to slowly remove the tint.

I use Gila Tint Remover!! :upthumbs
Cost about $10.00
Won't harm the Defroster!:thumb:thumb

You can get it at Advance or Auto Zone!! Easily removes tint and the glue too!!:thumb:thumb

What did it cost to tint the windows? I have a 79 with that slide in solid Lexan tint piece in the back widow.I want that out,& dark tint in its place,& lighter on the side windows.

I love the way the red de-fog stripes look on the black tint. Real shame I tore the tint while cleaning it because it doesn't look like this is an easy fix. Maybe a tint shop can replace the torn piece only but I doubt it. Anyone have pics of the lexan piece in theirs? This option doesn't sound great either but curious.

If anyones interested,I'd like to sell off that solid back window tint piece,& put in window tint. Not sure how it should be packaged to ship, though;shrug

I am interested, you don't have any pics of it in your vette by any chance?
