Well when it rains it pours. Finally wired my Escort 8500 into the power to the rearview mirror. While I had it out I accedentially knocked it off of the table I was sodering on :mad. Soooo I need to have the glass replace in the unit.

Anyone ever do this before? Can a local glass shop cut me a new piece of glass or must I shop for a mirror? I looked through a few post and didn't find anything specific.

Thanks!

The silver coating on the back of the glass had deteriorated on mine. I ended up replacing the mirror, as the day/night glass is not at your local glass shop.

I may have one (glass) for you I can sell. Let me look for it and see...

Everyone including the dealer is telling me that I need to replace the entire unit. Oh and they tell me at the end of the conversation that GM does not stock the item any longer. Unreal! I would have thought that you could just replace the glass but what profit is there in doing that. I have one lead on a used on in the city.

Man, don’t break these things.

They're wrong of course.

eBay sometimes has them if you want the entire unit. I have replaced mine in the past because of a detached swivel ball. The glass cannot be had be conventional means, but it is easy to remove and replace if you have another mirror. I wired my escort to the mirror also last year. When I did I had to take the mirror apart so I could figure out which wires to use. The glass definitely comes out.

I still have my original mirror assembly around somewhere.

I'm going to see if I can find some glass from an autoparts shop that will fit or come close. I thought the same thing about the replacement.

Ok. Good luck.

If you decide you need mine let me know. ;)

Oh I'm interested if you find it. Just can stand having this mirror broken in my vette.
