Rebuild interval for B2Ks

How long is a forced induction engine, B2Ks especially, good for before one begins to experience a loss of power? Thanks for your help.

depends how its driven and cared for....no detonation and the motor will last a long time...100k+ miles easy. If you detonate the motor or run it improperly...it could be a short ride.

Maintenance is KEY to the longevity of these cars - and proper storage if seldom driven...

I have heard of a couple 120k mi cars out there, no rebuilds on them :cool

I would like to hear what has worked well, for those with high mileage on a B2K - Whats the secret??? if there is such a thing??? :beer

How's the B2K search coming?????

Detonate is another word for the pinging or knock sound you hear from the engine. Not something you want with a turbo.

I would guess as a generalization that a forced-induction motor wouldn't last as long as a n-a motor at similar power levels. I believe Callaway cited better durability as a bonus when they switched to the SuperNatural lineup. I'd think at stock power levels and in proper tune a B2K could last pretty well, though. They have beefy internals, low compression, and the revs are low (peak power is around 4200 rpm).

I'd disagree with that for many cases.

If you have an engine built to handle forced induction, it should last longer for the average driver than a similar N-A engine with the same power (similar means same size and design, so no comparing DOHC LT5 and OHV L98, and no comparing a 502 big block vs. a 350 small block).

To make natural = turbo, you tend to put a heavy strain on the valve train at all RPM's / throttle, where boost really adds wear/stress at high boost levels, which is only under heavy throttle, so cruising is very low wear.

Racing though, is a whole different story.
 
I don't want to derail this thread, but let me clarify that as a generalization, to make the same power level, you'd need a bigger engine. Two engines of the same size and layout, it stands to reason the one with forced induction would make more power than the one without. In the case of Callaways, the naturally aspirated motors grew to 383 in^3 in order to make comparable power to the Twin Turbo cars.

The search has hit a lull for the moment as I have explored all of the B2Ks within my meager budget and nothing new has come up for sale. That's not to say that there is any thing wrong with the cars I have ventured out to see, just not sure if they are the right cars for me. However, I still find myself salivating heavily at the thought of riding in Josh's car...

Am still beating the bushes and asking anyone who seems to be in the know if they have seen anything, but no luck thus far. Seems as though the entire Callaway community is more than willing to go the extra mile to help out any prospective B2K owner and it is most appreciated. There are some really great guys out there!
