Rebuild

Does anyone know what a good rebuild kit should cost? And what all is in the kit. I want to do a rebuild on my 86 (cast iron heads) and there are a lot of kits out there and I don't want to be taken to bad. Or at least have good information on price and quaility befor hand. I can get this kit off of ebayand the price looks good but is the quailit? He says he has 2 kits. One uses Hyperutetic pistons, Double roller timing set, Hi Vol oil pump and a mild street cam and includes all other parts to rebuild my engine and is $275 The second is the same except it uses TRW forged pistons and a L-82 cam { 350-350 horsepower } and costs $435.

Anyone got an idea??

What the heck is an L-82 cam. I have a 79 with the L-82 option if that what he is refering to and its far from 300-350hp. Either he does not know what he is talking about or he is trying to pull one on you.

The car came with 210hp/275ftlbs. With bolt on (i.e. Headers, intake, high flow mufflers, no CATS) maybe you could break 300. MMMAAAYYYBBBEEEE

There are really cheap kits out there if you are just looking for a rebuild and NOT for performance. But if you are going for a bit more power go with at least Hypereutectic pistons.If 300-350 Hp is your goal a stock cast crank w/ better bearings and some "pink" GM rods will do you just fine and won't cost you much.

As far as the cam, they have to match your heads. Your car runs off of a CPU right?

Your going to have to be more careful about picking a cam for your setup in that case. I know 69myway (Chris) has messed with a CPU controlled car with some succes and great power.
