While browsing through the GMGoodwrench.com website, I found an RPO listing that shows a the L81 RPO used for two distinct engine configurations.

L81 81-81 V8, 5.7L​

L81 97-02 6 Cyl, 3.0L, MFI, HO​

At least the other one is not a V8...​

To me, a LS-6 is still a 454 big block.

That's confusing as well. The regular L43 engine was the one used on the S-10, but that was a Vortec four-banger (2200 cc or 2.2 Ltr).
