Can someone point me in the right direction on removing a dash pad? I have a 88 35th anniversary that I want to replace the bread box with the flat panel. To do it the correct way involves removal of the dash pad. I am not sure what is all involved to remove the top. I also want to make sure that when I put it back into place I don't have any rattles or squeaks. It has been pretty solid without a problem and I don't want to start with problem noises now. If you have any pics on how to do it, that would be great. Thanks in advance!

just did it two weeks ago to replace my headlight switch.

have to pull the speedo bezel off and the center console cover off. there are screws that go in from the bottom into the dash pad. also there are two located in the defroster vent.its kinda stuck in there but wiggle and pull straight out till it unlocks from the slide tabs that also secure it.

good luck

It's fairly easy to remove it, but harder to get it back in. Here's how I did it: remove the two long screws in the defroster outlet in the front center of the dash, then remove all the screws just underneath the very front of the dash pad, I forget how many there are but they are pretty easy to see. Now tilt the steering wheel all the way down, you'll need the clearance. The front of the dash pad is held in by metal clips, you just give a firm but gentle backwards tug and it pops out. You'll have to gently maneuver it out at this point, and there's not a lot of clearance, but eventually it will come out.

Once you have it out, take a good look at it, it's just styrofoam covered with vinyl! It is strong but light. This is one of the many weight-saving features of the car.

It's a pain to get this thing back in again, it took two people for me to do it, all those clips in the front need to be maneuvered back in again.
