Before I tear up the dash!! how are the clips that hold the dash pad on supposed to be removed?

The clips are not made for removal and reinstallation of the same clips. I believe you'll have to grind off the clips head (the part you can now see) and buy new ones when you're ready to reinstall the pad. That's what I had to do. They install by crimping together the part you now see, which causes the part inside the dash pad itself to flare out or expand, locking itself inside the pad.

Hope this helps

dash pad clips

I removed the dash clips using a small (approx. 1/4 flat tip screwdriver) insert it into the clips and roll the tip. The clip looks like a butterfly. This will cause the clip to open on the outer side and close on the inner side. I then removed them with a small set of pliers. The only ones that took some time were the clips in the center radio dash area. I tried to take a picture of a couple clips. The one with the screwdriver is like it would be in the dash. The other is the way you would want them before re-installation or as you remove them. If you are using aftermarket pads, make sure you have a good fit before you attempt installation.

Hope this helps!

Pictures are worth a thousand words!

Good luck with your dash!
