Removing tint

Hi guys,

Do you have any tips for removing tint from rear window with defroster.

Any help here would be fantastic.

I wondered the same thing ??

I know when my truck was last inspected they made me take the tint off. The dark part came off ok but left the glue behind. I was able to scrap the rest off when I got home (and put new darker tint back on) . I wonder if you did peel it off over the defrosters and then used a solvent to clean the glue if it would hurt the defroster? Sure can't scrape it. That's the biggest reason I haven't done mine yet.

I've got the same problem. After 20 years of wear and tear, the tint is seperating from the glass in places. I also have the defroster on the back window. I have heard that you can use a diluted solution of water and ammonia.

The guy at Tint King wants $200 to remove it. Not a chance.

If some has an idea, it would be nice to share it here.

Mart, Enigma, and Corvette-Pilot:

I split your posts into a new thread since the one they were initally made in was from two years ago and it included a search for louvers by a member that hasn't visited here in nearly a year. Hopefully having your questions on their own here will generate a better and quicker response.

At walmart they have window tint remover, I don't know if it only works with the tinting stuff they sell, or if it even works, might be worth a try anyway.

Just a side-topic: if you decide to re-tint, there is a flexible plastic panel (Eckler's or Mid-America sells them) that simply snaps into place against the rear window, and can be removed just as easily, since it doesn't actually glue to the glass. I haven't tried it, but I've been tempted to, once I get some other things done.

Removed tint

Yahoo woopee .........

It worked, I was really torn between leaving the tint alone and removing, well tonight I thought what the hell. I went out to the garage and peeled a corner of the side window, I did not relly want to use ammonia, so I tried "Spray Nine" WOW, I let it sit for a minute and it wiped off, some areas I had to rub a little harder but it wiped off. the side windows look perfect. I have not done the hatch yet but it should be the same.

I'm not sure how old the tint was but it came off both side windows in about half an hour.

Thanks Guys

Hey Mart,

What is "Spray Nine?" And where did you get it? I've got a back window thats's been tinted as well and I'd love to get the stuff out of there.

Thanks,

Spray Nine

Kelly,

Spray Nine is sort of a cleaner disinfectant, I bought it at Canadian Tire, but I have seen it at Wal Mart and several grocery stores.

Here is a link to thier website

Not sure if you can buy it in the US.

Hope this helps
