I've got to repaint my White '75. I've heard numerous times that it seems all of the mid-'70's are white (just saw one today, and my brother-in-law's '77 is white). I was at a show recently and saw the C-6's with the Arctic White, I believe it's called; very distinct looking. Anyone see a C-3 in Arctic White? I was going to just go stock color again, but figured if I could get the Arctic White it could set it apart.

Hi,

I also like the Arctic White so I say go for it. However, if you are into originality or NCRS judging, you might want to stick with the original color. Otherwise, paint it whatever color you want!

My brother and I had a similar conversation when I was looking at a 1969 BB convertiable in white. I backed off the car because we both agreed that a white corvette says "1970's."

In other words, not many "lay" people would look at a white corvette and say it's a late 1960's car. Personally, I like white, especially for a late 70's or early 80's car. Historically white is a love/hate or 50/50 color.

As to the color you prefer I am going to go out on a limb here. I could never understand why someone would put a 10 to 15k paint job on their car, just to be consistent with the trim tag color, choosing a color they dislike and feel is butt ugly...........just to maximize the value of the car??? For Who????

Any day of the week, I would rather buy a car with a color I love that does not match the trim tag rather than a color I despise that matches the trim tag. Would I pay as much for the non-original color- hopefully not. Nonetheless, that 10-15k paint job that you do today will be meaningless in 15 to 20 years. At that point the paint is old and the repaint will be in the hands of a potentially new owner. As to the "investiment" side- please, I'm not your wife. Sure, I can tell mine that putting cash into my car is much better than pissing it away on crack cocaine.........but, come on, we're a bunch of guys here, are'nt we??? Cars should be viewed as a hobby, not as an investment (IMHO). When you start adding up every penney you put into the car, you're probably not having fun any more.

Life is a short journey, so please, paint your car the color that you want.

Similar issue with my 1972 454..........love that sound of this car with headers...would not own this car without headers.........to me factory exhaust is the anti-viagra!!!! Am I critical of those who keep theirs OEM.......no (but I love my headers!!!!). To each their own.

Anyway, off my soap box for now.......Cheers!!!!

The real bottom line- no BS and no kidding- the ONLY one you need to please is yourself. If you want to paint it lime green with purple trim, go for it. It's YOUR car. Do as you please.

Ol' Red, my '69, has flares on it- FACTORY flares that came right across the GM parts counter in 1971. I get heat on a regular basis for having cut the wheel wells to install them and arguments that they're not GM flares- and I have the parts catalog to prove them.

We're going back and forth with the same issue on ours. We are wanting to change the color but can't decide on one. She likes the charcoal gray or magnetic red on the C5/6s but I'm kinda digging a pearlescent bright white (not yellowish like most pearls) as well.

We're not so worried about original color on it so we are doing what pleases us (once we can decide on a color :) )

One thing that I suggest doing is simply finding a 'newer' car out there on the road and seeing what colors you like. That's what I did with my car. The reason was for availability. I figured that if/when I needed to touch up the car, it was going to be a lot easier to find a color that was recently used. By recent, I mean within the past 10 years or so.
My car is actually a mix of Chrysler and Audi's colors.
The blue is Patriot Blue Pearl Coat first used on the Dodge Durango RT's. The white is Pearl White from Audi.
And yes, when I had to have my front bumper replaced, the color match was perfect because it's a recent color and not something that had to be hunted down and created from a formula 35 years old.

So walk through some new car lots and see what colors you like. Then you can go into the dealership and look at the various paint swatches. Grab a couple of brochures with 'em, take 'em home, and start to narrow down what you like!

You can put that 2¢ towards the cost of your paint job. :thumb
